How it started…

In 2020, like most of the world, I found myself being forced to sit at home. Lockdowns brought my 15 yearlong career as a barber in Washington DC to a screeching halt; from fully-booked to fully-bored in an instant. A few weeks in I began to wonder when, and even if, I'd get to cut hair again. What I wasn't expecting next was a call from the cops. Assuming it was some public announcement or scam, I answered the phone. A familiar voice asked, "Greg, have you been cutting hair?"

"No...." I couldn't place the voice. "Who is this?"

The man on the phone was one of my clients, a DC metro police officer, calling to inform me that law enforcement and medical providers were allowed to get their hair cut during lockdowns. The only problem: no barber shops were open.

Being quite apt with context clues, I immediately saw what he was getting at, and soon, all of my clients in law enforcement and medicine were texting me asking for haircuts. I took the necessary precautions (both legal and sanitary) then got to work. My apartment became a speakeasy barbershop of sorts, and many fades were fresh once more.

When all the shops re-opened, capacity was still greatly reduced. Only 1 out of every 2 or 3 barbers could work at any given time, due to social distancing mandates. This, amongst a myriad of other factors, led to a sustained demand for cuts outside of the shop. Before long, a lot of people started asking, "can you come to me?" Then came, "can you cut my kids' hair?".

Those were the early days, born of demand and necessity. I didn't expect it to last. When I moved to Pittsburgh in Sept 2020, my intent was to open my own barbershop, but requests for my remote services remained (along with other opportunities), so I held off, and I'm glad I did.

Over the next several years I tried brief stints in film and tech production, with some moonlighting at a few barbershops that needed help, but I never stopped seeing my clients on the side. I love being my own boss and having direct connections to my clients, just as much as I love taming the fiercest cowlicks and solving lifelong hair gaffes.

My current routine clients are spread across PA, WV, MD, VA, and DC; mostly along the route from Pittsburgh to the DC metro area. If you don't see your state, don't worry, I'm always willing to add a new location with enough heads to cut! I've held monthly contracts with offices that know a great tax write-off/employee perk when they see one. On rare occasions, I've even been flown across the country to cut and style for weddings and special events!

I believe there is immense value in my service offering, so for the first time I'm intentionally advertising my services to the public. I have two decades of expertise in haircutting and styling, with a God-given, 1-of-1 talent for managing cowlicks in unique ways for effortless styling. I also offer early morning and late night appointments starting as early as 5:00am and as late as 10:00pm. For those who like to spread word of mouth, I even have a referral program to earn free cuts!

With pricing always comparable to the average barbershop in your area, no expectation of tipping, and no pushy upsells on products or services, you'll save time, money, mileage, and look better with less effort and no fuss. I stand by my word and my work. You'll get your favorite haircut (or beard trim) of your life from me, or you won't pay for it.

When you invite me to your home, office, place of worship, event, or anyplace else, I know that is an act of trust, and I do not take that lightly. I try to respect and adapt to any space I find myself working in. Life and the human experience are sacred to me, and that extends to how I treat you and provide my services.

Please reach out using the contact form with any questions you have, to set up a virtual consultation, or to schedule an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely

Gregory Adessa
